Popis
For more than ten years, Jana Šturdíková recorded everything from the boiler room to the lightning rod and ten apartments in an original functionalist building constructed in Bratislava in 1936 by Jewish architect Alexander Skutecký. She places the same details of the apartments on each floor below each other in the exhibition, corresponding to the individual floors of the building, and in pairs she guides us through the furnishings of the left one-room and right two-room apartments: from the elevator through the entrance door, kitchen, bathroom to the main room. He observes how these elements changed, were preserved, or were replaced under the influence of use. Using these examples, he traces how the great history of the 20th and 21st centuries, typical of Central European countries, has flowed through the building. Aryanization, World War II, nationalization, and restitution are reflected in seemingly insignificant details that we are accustomed to touching every day.
